At Sonia FootCare, we provide safe, compassionate, and clinically proven care for plantar warts — those stubborn, often painful growths that develop on the soles of your feet. Our certified Foot Care Nurses deliver customized treatments that focus on hygiene, comfort, and effectiveness, with special attention to clients who are diabetic, immune compromised, or living with chronic conditions. Whether you are dealing with a newly developed lesion or a long-standing, treatment-resistant wart, our goal is to help you walk comfortably and with confidence once again.
What are they?
Understanding Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus enters the skin through tiny cuts or breaks, most often on the bottoms of the feet. Because they tend to develop in weight-bearing areas such as the heel or ball of the foot, plantar warts may flatten under pressure or appear as raised, grainy lesions. A distinctive feature is the presence of tiny black dots, which are actually small clotted blood vessels. While plantar warts can sometimes resolve on their own they are:
- Contagious and can spread
- Painful, causing discomfort
- Persistent in those with diabetes & more
What to Watch For: Signs You May Have a Plantar Wart
If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, professional care is recommended especially if you have an underlying health condition that affects wound healing.
- Small, rough, or raised lesions on the sole of the foot
- Pain or pressure when standing, walking, or squeezing the area
- Hard or thickened skin developing over a lesion
- Tiny black “pinpoint” dots in the center of the wart
- No response to over-the-counter wart treatments
- Increasing discomfort or spreading lesions

Plantar Wart Care Process
Your visit begins with a detailed evaluation of the affected area to ensure an accurate diagnosis and the most effective care plan. During this step, we assess:
The number, size, and location of lesions
Pain levels and any difficulty walking
Signs of infection, skin breakdown, or pressure injuries
Differential diagnosis to rule out corns, calluses, or other conditions
No two feet are the same, so no two treatment plans should be either. Your Foot Care Nurse tailors your care based on:
The severity and number of warts
Your health history, especially if you have diabetes or a compromised immune system
Skin sensitivity and tolerance to topical agents
Our primary method, Silver Nitrate Therapy, is a medically approved cauterizing agent that destroys wart tissue at the source. For deeper lesions, we perform gentle debridement to expose the wart base, followed by precise application of silver nitrate to destroy viral cells while preserving healthy tissue.
Using sterile instruments and advanced clinical techniques, we remove the built-up skin (hyperkeratosis) over the wart to expose the viral core for more effective treatment. This process:
Reduces pain caused by pressure
Increases absorption of topical treatments
Prevents further spreading and thickening
In some cases, mild pinpoint bleeding is induced to reach the wart base. This may cause slight discomfort but is essential for optimal results.
We empower you with practical tips to prevent recurrence and avoid spreading HPV, including:
Proper foot hygiene routines
Footwear tips to reduce friction and pressure
How to protect feet in public spaces such as pools, gyms, and locker rooms
At-home care instructions after treatment
This is especially important for families and children, where more than one household member may be at risk.
Plantar warts often require more than one session for complete resolution. We schedule follow-up visits based on your progress and risk factors. These visits allow us to:
Reassess lesion size and healing progress
Reapply treatment if necessary
Adjust your care plan to ensure continued improvement
Monitor for any new skin changes or developments
Get it done by the best
