Biological Indicator Testing and Monitoring
- Each sterilizer cycle includes a Process Challenge Device containing a BI, and a control BI from the same lot is incubated simultaneously to ensure accurate monitoring.
- The BI incubator is set up and operated in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Because BI results take 24 hours, instruments are not released based solely on BI outcome. Instead, we rely on validated mechanical, chemical, and procedural controls to safely release instruments for use prior to BI result availability.
Chemical Indicator Monitoring
- A Type 5 Chemical Indicator is placed inside a PCD during every sterilizer cycle. This serves as a critical tool for real-time verification that all sterilization parameters have been met.
Instrument Reprocessing Workflow
- Secure Handling & Collection: Used instruments are collected in sealed, dry containers immediately after use. This maintains sterility during transport and prevents recontamination.
- Ultrasonic Cleaning & Inspection: Instruments are inspected for damage or residue, then cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, followed by thorough rinsing, drying, and lubrication as per the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
- Identification System: All instruments are marked using a Colour-Coded Strip system for efficient tracking and identification.
